Huge New Leaderboard Promotion Launches on Dot-Com Market

PokerStars Tetris + Spin & Go: Huge New Leaderboard Promotion Launches on Dot-Com Market

PokerStars has launched Tetris Spin and Go, a twist to its Spin and Go game which adds a new themed leaderboard-style mini-game under official Tetris branding.

Avid pokerfuse readers will have already known that this was in the pipeline: Our sister site F5 exclusively revealed this coming back in September last year.

So what is Tetris + Spin & Go? Well, its a full rebranding of the operator’s ultra-successful Spin & Go lottery sit and go game. If you were playing this game before, you can keep playing it now—nothing has changed to the rules, you’ll just notice a fancy new lobby and table theme.

If you don’t have a PokerStars account, then you can sign up and as soon as you have a verified real money account, you can participate in this promotion. Spin and Go games start at just 25 cents, and you can take advantage of the operator’s generous sign-up bonus at the same time.

At the heart of Tetris + Spin & Go is effectively a very generous leaderboard promotion. The company is giving away over $1.5 million from now until March 28, one of the most generous promotions PokerStars has run in a long while.

Tetris + Spin and Go: What you Need to Know

  • Make sure you join every leaderboard with a link in the Spin and Go lobby so that you participate.
  • There is a leaderboard for each buy-in.
  • There is no cost to participation.
  • Otherwise play your games as normal—you do not need to do anything else to be in with a shot of a prize.
  • You can play both Spin and Go and the fast Spin and Go Flash variant. Both contribute to the same leaderboard (if played at the buy-in).
  • The more games you play and win, the higher up the leaderboard you go.
  • The leaderboard is daily and individual cash prizes range from $5 up to $3000.
  • You can participate in as many leaderboards as you like, for as many days as you like.
  • The promotion is running now and concludes March 28, 2021.

Understanding exactly how it works is a little complicated. Basically, while you play games, you accumulate line clears. You get more if you win a spin and go, but you still get some if you come second or third. Every position counts but just playing tournaments racks up these lines.

You then move up levels. Every time you hit five Line Clears, you move up a level. These are effectively points multipliers. It goes up to 20.

These two factors combine to give you leader board points. And these points are what move you up the table into contention.

If all that sounds a bit confusing, then don’t worry: Just play your usual Spin and Go games and keep an eye on the leaderboard. Th one possible deviation is that second place has slightly more value han third, but probably not enough for you to deviate your normal strategy.

If you see yourself in contention for a leaderboard one day, it might be worth checking out the payouts—as you could be in for free money at the end of the day if you keep playing.

Things to keep in mind with PokerStars’ Tetris + Spin and Go

  • Volume here pays – regardless of your finish position, you are getting points for the leader board every game.
  • This compounds – as you grind more games, you level up, which multiplies points.
  • All finish positions count – you get more points for second than third place finish.
  • Low multiplier games actually help more so don’t switch off on those 2x games!

The operator has earmarked a total of $33,000 daily for leaderboard prizes—one of the operator’s most generous in recent memory.

These are spread across all buy-in tiers. For example, for the 25 cent game, first place each day wins $50, and the top 100 spots get at least $5.

The prizes both increase in value, and decrease in payout spots, in higher buyins. For example, The $100 game only pays the top 20 players, but the top prize is $1000 and the lowest is $100.

At the $500 game—currently the highest game the operator spreads—has a top prize is $3000, but that is the only spot that pays out.

The $1000 game is not part of the promotion, the operator stated. However, it is not currently listed in the client anyway. Promotional spins—like the current Stars Rewards ticket game and the $22 tournament for Turbo Series, are also excluded.

Tetris + Spin & Go runs from now for six weeks, ending March 28.

Online poker tournaments are massive on Sundays and this fact along brings out the game’s best players. Michael Addamo, Timothy Adams, and Justin Bonomo are just three of those stellar names who managed to take down a Sunday major this weekend.

Michael Addamo enjoyed a super Sunday courtesy of triumphing in the Sunday 500 High Rollers $5,250, a tournament that attracted 113 of the world’s best players to the GGPoker virtual felt.
Addamo’s first bullet didn’t go to plan and he crashed out in 76th place. He re-entered and put used his new stack to full effect.
The likes of Kristen Bicknell, Matthias Eibinger, Elio Fox, Benjamin Rolle, and Anatoly Filatov busted inside the money places but before the star-studded final table.
Austria’s “Filip1” was the final table’s first casualty. Their ninth-place exit awarding a $14,833 prize.
Alex Foxen and David Yan then busted. Yan would go on to take down Sunday High Rollers Bounty King $3,150 for $49,300 later in the evening.
The exits of Michael Zhang, Aleksei Barkov, Pascal Hartmann, and David Peters left Addamo heads-up against Wiktor Malinowski. Addamo rarely loses when he’s heads-up and that was the case again here. Addamo collected $131,187 for his victory while Malinowski banked $99,898 for his runner-up finish.
Defeating Malinowski will go some way to making up for losing a massive $842,000 cash game pot last year.

PokerStars Drops In Bounty Builder Series in New Jersey and Pennsylvania US Regulated Markets

PokerStars Drops In Bounty Builder Series in New Jersey and Pennsylvania US Regulated Markets

Days after PokerStars announced its first-ever tournament series in Michigan, the operator’s other two US states New Jersey and Pennsylvania will have their own too.

It will not to be flagship COOP series, but rather the operator’s traditional progressive knockout tournament festival, Bounty Builder Series (BBS), that will return to the regulated US online poker rooms of PokerStars NJ and PokerStars PA after seven months starting this Saturday, February 20.

The two events will run separately on both platforms spanning over two weeks offering up more than $2 million in combined guarantees.

PokerStars USA: The world’s largest online poker room is legal and regulated in Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Jersey!

  • Great bonus$30 freeplay or Up to $600 deposit match bonus.
  • The world’s most regulated online poker room.
  • Great cash game traffic and some of the best weekly guaranteed MTTs.
  • Stars rewards program rewards play across poker, casino and sports.

In Pennsylvania, the BBS guarantees over $1.5 million and in its neighboring state, more than $600,000 is guaranteed.

As the name would imply, all the tournaments will be played in the progressive knockout format—a wildly-popular MTT format where half the buy-in goes towards the prize pool and the rest towards the player’s bounty.

Both series will award seven title championship belts to the event winners, a trend that started on these two markets last year. There are a total of 14 championship events combined.

Bounty Builder Series February 2021: Similar Schedule But More Options in Pennsylvania

Although both series are similar in nature, the guarantees in Pennsylvania are much higher. $1.5 million is on offer for PA players compared to $600k in New Jersey.

The average guarantee per tournament is exactly $20,000 for players in the Keystone State while for those in the Garden State, it is just over half, at $10,345 per tournament. The guarantees are higher on PokerStars PA because it has many more players on the site.

Pennsylvania players also have more choice than its counterpart New Jersey: 75 tournaments versus 58. But both feature the same number of Championship Belt events. Mixed games are also on offer on both the sites, however PA players have the extra option of HORSE and Badugi while the BBS events in NJ are limited to Hold’em, Omaha and 8-Game variants.

Buy-ins are in the same range across both series, starting at $10. However, PA players have a High Roller tournament costing $1000 to enter while the maximum buy-in on offer for NJ players is $750.

The Main Events differ a bit: In Pennsylvania the Main Event boasts a $150,000 guarantee for a buy-in of $200; the New Jersey edition features a buy-in of $300 and promises $75,000.

Both have a Mini companion version: A $50 buy-in Mini Main guaranteeing $40,000 in PA; the same event costs $30 in NJ for a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000.

Some of the standout tournaments of the Bounty Builder Series across both PS PA & PS NJ include:

  • February 20 – Series Kick-Off Event $100 buy-in – $40K in PA, $15K in NJ
  • February 21 – Sunday Special – $100 buy-in and $100K in PA, $200 buy-in and $35K in NJ
  • February 25 – Thursday Thrill $200 buy-in – $50K in PA, $20K in NJ
  • February 28 – Storm $10 buy-in – $5K in both PA and NJ
  • March 2 – Super Tuesday – $200 buy-in and $50K in PA, $250 buy-in and $25K in NJ
  • March 6 – 25% PKO $100 buy-in – $30K in PA and $10K in NJ
  • March 7 – Main Event – $200 buy-in and $150K in PA, $300 buy-in and $75K in NJ

To reward high volume players, both platforms are offering a KO Leaderboard giving away $16,000 respectively. Players will earn one point every time they knock out a player. The topper of the leaderboard will walk away with a $4000 cash prize.

New Jersey players will also have a special $3 buy-in Bounty Builder Series special Spin & Go giving away tickets to the Main Event. Since PokerStars PA doesn’t have the Spin & Go offering, it is only available to NJ players.

Third Bounty Builder Series in a Year

This will be the third instance that a tournament series dedicated wholly to bounty tournaments will run on PokerStars NJ & PokerStars PA. The Bounty Builder Series was first introduced in the US regulated markets last year following its huge popularity in the dot-com market.

The first BBS in PA had just $500,000 guaranteed across 32 tournaments while the NJ version had even lower guarantees—$300,000 over the same number of tournaments.

The PKO festival returned in July and boasted the same amount of guarantees as it will be for the upcoming edition.

Bounty Builder Series 2021 runs on PokerStars NJ and PokerStars PA from Saturday, February 20.

The $1,100 Mini Main Event crushed its $1 million guarantee with 1,127 entrants to generate a tasty $1,127,000 prize pool. Each of the opening flights played down to just 15 percent of the field leaving just 169 players heading into today’s Day 2.
Each of the opening flights allowed for 1 re-entry during the first nine levels. Players were given plenty of time to build a stack with long 25-minute blind levels.
Sebastian Camilo Toro Henao will head into Day 2 with the chip lead after he parlayed his opening stack of 1 million in chips in Saturday’s Day 1a into a massive stack of 27,039,049 in chips.
Two-time WSOP champion Elio Fox (25,419,260) is the closest player on Henao’s tail after virtually bagging the biggest stack on Sunday’s Day 1b. Luciano Hollanda (23,000,730) and Patrick Blye (22,663,403) were the only two other players to end an opening flight over the weekend with at least 20 million in chips.
Other players heading into Day 2 near the top of the leaderboard include Thomas Boivin (18,388,054), Joseph Cheong (17,118,762), William Kassouf (16,075,000), Espen Uhlen Jorstad (13,730,257), and Dominik Nitsche (12,483,080).

The Mini Main Event resumes on Monday, Feb. 15 at 7:05 p.m. GMT (2:05 p.m. EST) with 169 hopefuls battling it out on Day 2.
The structure becomes deeper on Day 2 with 30-minute blind levels throughout the day as compared to 25-minute blind levels during each of the opening flights.
All of the returning players are each guaranteed a min-cash of $2,105 for nearly double the $1,100 buy-in with all players having their eye on the top prize of $184,507.
Day 2 will conclude after 10 blind levels with any surviving players coming back to compete on Day 3, which features even longer 40-minute blind levels, on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Day 3 will witness the field trimmed down to just nine players with the final table scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17 when a winner will be crowned.

PokerStars to Party in Southern Europe with €15 Million Carnaval Series

3 mins read

PokerStars is looking to reassert its dominance in the Southern European poker market a month after Winamax made waves with a record-setting series.

PokerStars Carnaval Series

PokerStars is aiming to reassert its dominance in the Southern European poker market with a €15 million Carnaval series. (Image: Ecotrans)

Liquidity sharing pacts between France, Spain, and Portugal have made Southern Europe a lucrative market in recent years. PokerStars has been the dominant force since connecting the three regions in 2018.

However, Winamax applied some pressure to its local rival when it hosted a €20 million MTT series in January. In response, PokerStars has hit back with a multi-million-Euro event of its own.

Two Series to Cover Southern Europe

The Southern European Carnaval Series will feature a €10 million guarantee and more than 270 MTTs. It’s open to players in France, Spain, and Portugal and will run from February 21 to March 11.

The highlight of the series will be a €500,000 guaranteed main event that costs €250 to enter. Alongside it will be side events starting at €5 and satellites from €0.50.

PokerStars will also host a separate Carnaval Series for Italians. Italy signed the Southern European liquidity sharing agreement in 2017. However, regulators have yet to put implement the agreement. As such, Italians are unable to compete with players France, Spain, and Portugal.

However, PokerStars isn’t leaving them out in the cold. A scaled down version of the Southern European Carnaval Series will run on PokerStars.it from February 21 to March 7.

The Italian series will have a €5 million guarantee, 105 MTTs and, a €500,000 main event.

PokerStars Asserting Its Dominance

PokerStars is guaranteeing €15 million overall but it will need to break that if it wants to beat the record Winamax set in January.

Even if it does manage to pay out more than €20 million, it’s not a fair comparison. Winamax only shares players between France and Spain.

In contrast, PokerStars is active in all four markets and shares players between three of them. Therefore, it has the advantage of being accessible to more players.

However, a prizepool of at least €15 million in a relatively new poker market like Southern Europe is a positive, nonetheless.

Liquidity sharing has allowed the once isolated and struggling regions to flourish, a point noted by regulators in 2019.

“One year after the materialization of the first poker ring accepting players from more than one of the said jurisdictions, the French, Portuguese and Spanish regulatory authorities convey their general satisfaction on the evolution of this new online shared ecosystem,” reads a 2019 joint regulatory statement.

PokerStars has made full use of the new dynamics and, in the coming weeks, it will look to use them again to get ahead of Winamax.

WSOP Michigan FAQ – with the impressive size of the MI online poker market, WSOP.com will seek to get its foothold in the state

8 mins read

Online poker went live in Michigan in January of 2021, and it was only with one operator, PokerStars Michigan. Other licensed companies launched online casinos and sportsbooks, but they held back on the poker segment to begin with.

It was not long before the state showed its online poker potential: PokerStars MI has become the largest regulated online poker room in the States, with the average traffic of 400 players in the very first week.

This development could well have prompted other stakeholders to move their online poker plans up. WSOP.com is one: While the final launch date for WSOP MI is still up in the air, as the company is currently focused more on going live in Pennsylvania before the summer, it might not be too long of a wait.

WSOP is one of the largest and best-known brands in the poker world and the name behind the largest yearly tournament series taking place in Las Vegas and (as of late) online. The company will certainly want to establish a foothold in Michigan.

On this page, we bring answers and predictions for the launch of WSOP.com in Michigan. Some of the information is based off of what we know about the two rooms currently in operation, namely WSOP Nevada and WSOP NJ, and we will make sure to update the information here as we obtain it.

When will WSOP MI go live?

There is no definitive date for the launch of WSOP Michigan. The operator is currently divided between several fronts, putting a lot of effort towards the launch in Pennsylvania. A realistic timeframe would be a few months, but it is possible the operator moves the launch date up and surprises MI players. The operator seems set on launching before the end of 2021.

Do I have to be physically present in the state to access WSOP Michigan?

You need to be within the state borders to play for real money at WSOP MI. This is one feature that all US regulated sites have in common and there is no reason to think that things will be any different when WSOP.com launches in Michigan.

The operator uses geolocation to make sure players adhere to this rule, and trying to bypass it is grounds for having your account closed. Also worth noting is that the minimum age limit to legally play on WSOP.com is 21.

Will WSOP.com Michigan combine player pools with other states?

Creating interstate online poker compacts is currently work in progress, not just for WSOP but for poker operators in the US in general. WSOP.com aims to offer combined player pools at some point, but it is difficult to say when and if this will happen.

Right now, there is an ongoing battle with regards to the Wire Act interpretation and if it should apply to online poker. Things are currently looking good for poker players and operators, and if the trend continues, we will start to see more rooms combining their pools across states.

Since WSOP MI is set to launch later this year, it is not impossible that there will be more clarity on the matter by that time. So, in theory, the room might have combined pools from the get-go, although it is likelier that they will kick off catering to Michigan players only and potentially expanding later.

What kind of a welcome offer will there be for new players?

Looking at what the room offers at New Jersey and Nevada, players from Michigan are probably looking at a 100% welcome bonus up to the maximum of $1000.

Like most poker bonuses, you will not receive the full amount immediately, but you will need to unlock it by playing real money cash games and tournaments and gathering Action Player Points (APPs). The bonus is released as follows:

  • The initial $10 releases at the rate of $1 for every 10 APPs
  • You will unlock the next $50 by receiving $5 for every 50 APPs
  • The rest of the bonus releases at the rate of $10 for every 100 APPs

The timeframe to release the bonus is usually 60 days, so there is plenty of time to do it. Action Player Points are awarded based on the rake generated, as follows:

  • 2 APPs for $1 paid in cash games (based on contributed rake)
  • 2 APPs for every $1 paid in tournament fees

Will there any other rewards offered by WSOP MI?

WSOP Michigan will very likely feature their simple but rather generous Poker Rewards program. Action Player Points that you gather by playing real money games can be used for more than just to unlock bonuses.

These points can be turned into real money when you convert them to WSOP Points. The number of WSOP Points you can get from your APPs depends on your loyalty level:

  • Bronze: Achieve 200+ APPs in a month and get 4x WSOP Points’ multiplier.
  • Silver: 750+ monthly points & 10x WSOP Points’ multiplier.
  • Elite: Gather 1500+ APPs and enjoy 12.5x multiplier.
  • Champions Club: Based on the yearly number of points. Achieve 20,000 or more and get to the maximum multiplier of 16x.

You can exchange WSOP Points for cash on your account. The process is very simple and you can redeem the points at the rate of $1 for 100 WSOP Points. The minimum number of points you can convert is 1000.

What deposit methods will be available for WSOP Michigan players?

WSOP offers a good variety of deposit options for the players in other states, and it is likely that Michigan players will have access to the same or at least very similar array of deposit methods, which includes:

  • MasterCard, Visa, and Discover
  • PayPal
  • ACH
  • PayNearMe
  • In-person deposit at the cashier cage

Some of these options have been thoroughly tried and tested by players, and PayPal and ACH seem to be top picks. Of course, in-person deposits are always a good option if you happen to find yourself in the vicinity of the actual property.

Credit and debit cards are always touch-and-go in the US. Despite the fact the sites have licenses to offer online poker games, many banks still block gambling-related transactions by default, so there is no guarantee your card will work with WSOP MI.

Does WSOP have a land-based partner in Michigan?

WSOP still does not have a land-based partner casino in the state of Michigan, which is a crucial step in the process. Before they launch, they will either need to find a partner in the state or wait for interstate compacts to become available.

What cash games will WSOP MI offer?

The most popular game offered at WSOP.com is No Limit Hold’em, with stakes going up to $25/$50. Other available cash game tables include Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha 8, as well as some stud games.

The bulk of action happens at NLHE and PLO tables, though, and this trend is likely to keep at WSOP MI as well. If you prefer other variations, the action is usually scarce and mostly found at lower limits.

Will WSOP.com MI offer BLAST poker tournaments?

WSOP Michigan will likely offer BLAST games. These are four-handed sit and go tournaments featuring the hyper-turbo structure and offering a chance to fight for the prize that can go as high as 10,000x your buy-in.

This is an exciting format, not just because of the jackpot potential, but also because there is a timer set for every game. Once the time runs out, all players are forced to go all in every hand until there is just one player remaining holding all the chips.

Does WSOP offer any form of fast-fold poker?

There are no fast-fold tables of any sort currently available at WSOP.com. This may change by the time WSOP MI is ready to launch, but at this point in time, the room does not offer any quick fold variations.

Is WSOP.com software any good?

While there are better online platforms out there, WSOP.com has done a fine job with the desktop software. The company is not too keen on implementing regular updates, but the fact is that WSOP.com offers a nice design and a good range of options to personalize your playing experience.

There are a few different deck designs on offer and a solid selection of avatars to choose from. The actual play interface is fairly simple but it is clean and easy to use.

It is worth mentioning that WSOP.com and 888 are getting ready to roll out a brand new client called Poker 8. This should be a major improvement on the existing software.

The plan is to roll out Poker 8 in Pennsylvania first and then move to other states. Depending on when WSOP Michigan goes live, players might have the privilege to play on the new platform from day one.

Will I be able to play WSOP Michigan from my phone?

Right now, WSOP.com offers mobile apps for Android and iOS devices, so Michigan players wanting to play from their phones and tablets should experience no problems. The current app does come with certain limitations, though. For example, you can only play one table at any given moment.

This problem, as well as many other smaller issues, should go away with the launch of the Poker 8 platform, as it will cover the mobile segment as well.

Sebastian Henao finds himself in the envious position of going into Day 2 as the tournament’s chip leader. The Mexico-based grinder is armed with 27,039,049 chips and must fancy his chances of taking down this event from this position.
Victory will not be an easy task because there are some exceptional players in the chasing pack.
Elio Fox is one of those superstars. Fox, also grinding from Mexico, has 25,419,260 chips in his stack and will have a major say in where this title ends up. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner has almost $10 million in live tournament winnings and more than $4.5 million from the online poker world.
Daria Krashennikova flying high in the MILLIONS Online Mini Main Event
Slightly further down the chip counts, you find Canada’s Patrick Blye (22,663,403) who is riding the crest of a wave having won the APAT WCOAP Main Event last weekend for $27,408. He’s guaranteed another $2,105 right now but he definitely has an eye on the top prize.
Also in the top 10 chip counts at the start of Day 2 are Thomas Boivin (18,388,054) and Russian starlet Daria Krashennikova (17,750,348). As are British high stakes cash guru Tom Macdonald (17,618,322) and Joseph Cheong (17,118,762).
