Win a Share of $1.5 Million in PokerStars’ Tetris® Spin & Go Games

5 mins read

February 16, 2021
Matthew Pitt

Tetris® combines with Spin & Go tournaments at PokerStars in a fun promotion that sees $1.5 million paid out between February 15 and March 28.
Head to the Spin & Go lobby in the PokerStars client and you’ll see there are Tetris® Spin & Go games with buy-ins of $0.25, $1, $2, $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $250, and $500. They all play out the exact same way as a traditional Spin & Go, meaning they’re three-handed hyper-turbo tournaments where the prize pool is randomly determined before the first hand is dealt.
It’s still possible to win up to $1 million in some of these game, but there are a few notable differences.
First, the virtual felt is made up of Tetris® blocks, which actually looks pretty cool. Also, the dealer button is now a Tetris® block too, and other blocks fall down the screen.
The Tetris® part of the promotion comes in the form of leaderboards. There’s a separate leaderboard for each Tetris® Spin & Go buy-in level, so 10 in total. You need to opt-in and then fire up some Tetris® Spin & Go tournaments.
Play your tournaments as you would ordinarily, but do so knowing the aim of the game is to clear lines, just like in Tetris®. The number of lines you clear depends on your Spin & Go multiplier and your finishing position in the tournament.
Your level increases each time you clear five lines. This results in you earning even more points so you can climb up your leaderboard faster.
The 2021 Guide to PokerStars Spin and Go Poker
How Many Lines Do I Clear?

As you can see from the table above, finishing in 1st place in a Tetris® Spin & Go that has a 2x multiplier clears four lines. Just playing a tournament earns you points.
How Do You Earn Points?
The number of leaderboard points you earn is based on your finishing position and your current level. You start off earning 40 points for clearing one line when you’re at Level 0, but this increases to 840 points if you manage to climb to Level 20, which is the highest level you can achieve.
It is possible to earn up to 25,200 points per Tetris® Spin & Go tournament, as you can see in this table.

Tetris® Spin & Go Payout Table
The leaderboards payout $33,000 every day throughout the promotion making for a combined total of $1,500,000 just for playing Tetris® Spin & Go tournaments.
The $0.25, $1, $2, and $5 leaderboard payout the top 100 points earners, so you have a decent chance of walking away with a cash prize. The prizes don’t have any restrictions on them meaning you’re free to do with them as you wish.

The Tetris® Playing Field – Avoid Hitting Game Over
There’s an extra element to this promotion that you have to be aware of at all times. PokerStars calls it the Playing Field.
Just like in a game of Tetris® where it is Game Over when the blocks reach the top of the screen, it can be game over for you if you go on a streak of out of the money finishes!
Finishing in first place either improves your Playing Field status or makes zero change to it. Finish in second place, however, and your Playing Field status either stays the same or actually worsens, which is also the case when you finish in third place.
Your table, or playing field, is green in color when your Playing Field is in a good state. It turns amber when it is worsening and turns red when you’re in big trouble. Failing to win when your playing field is red could see you reach Game Over which means you cannot earn any more leaderboard points until the next day!
The changes to your playing field status depend on your current level.

All you need to do then is opt-in and fire up some Tetris® Spin & Go tournaments and see if you can pad your bankroll with some of the $1.5 million that’s guaranteed to be won. That and try not to spend the rest of the day humming the famous Tetris® tune!

Addamo, Adams, and Bonomo Among Big Sunday Winners

7 mins read

February 15, 2021
Matthew Pitt

Online poker tournaments are massive on Sundays and this fact along brings out the game’s best players. Michael Addamo, Timothy Adams, and Justin Bonomo are just three of those stellar names who managed to take down a Sunday major this weekend.
Addamo Takes Down GGPoker Sunday 500 High Rollers $5,250
Michael Addamo enjoyed a super Sunday courtesy of triumphing in the Sunday 500 High Rollers $5,250, a tournament that attracted 113 of the world’s best players to the GGPoker virtual felt.
Addamo’s first bullet didn’t go to plan and he crashed out in 76th place. He re-entered and put used his new stack to full effect.
The likes of Kristen Bicknell, Matthias Eibinger, Elio Fox, Benjamin Rolle, and Anatoly Filatov busted inside the money places but before the star-studded final table.
Austria’s “Filip1” was the final table’s first casualty. Their ninth-place exit awarding a $14,833 prize.
Alex Foxen and David Yan then busted. Yan would go on to take down Sunday High Rollers Bounty King $3,150 for $49,300 later in the evening.
The exits of Michael Zhang, Aleksei Barkov, Pascal Hartmann, and David Peters left Addamo heads-up against Wiktor Malinowski. Addamo rarely loses when he’s heads-up and that was the case again here. Addamo collected $131,187 for his victory while Malinowski banked $99,898 for his runner-up finish.
Defeating Malinowski will go some way to making up for losing a massive $842,000 cash game pot last year.

All but two of the players who navigated their way to the final table walked away with five-figures hauls. Fedor Holz and Andrii Novak being that duo.
“LeoJose” fell in seventh and was joined on the rail first by Artur Martirosian, then by Urmo Velvelt, Rainer Kempe, and China’s Kevin Pu.
This left Adams, on his one and only bullet, heads-up against Arsneii Malinov. Malinov fell at the final hurdle and scooped $36,565, which left Adams to add the $46,885 top prize to his GGPoker account.

Sebastian Camilo Toro Henao Leads Mini Main Event
The $1,100 Mini Main Event crushed its $1 million guarantee with 1,127 entrants to generate a tasty $1,127,000 prize pool. Each of the opening flights played down to just 15 percent of the field leaving just 169 players heading into today’s Day 2.
Each of the opening flights allowed for 1 re-entry during the first nine levels. Players were given plenty of time to build a stack with long 25-minute blind levels.
Sebastian Camilo Toro Henao will head into Day 2 with the chip lead after he parlayed his opening stack of 1 million in chips in Saturday’s Day 1a into a massive stack of 27,039,049 in chips.
Two-time WSOP champion Elio Fox (25,419,260) is the closest player on Henao’s tail after virtually bagging the biggest stack on Sunday’s Day 1b. Luciano Hollanda (23,000,730) and Patrick Blye (22,663,403) were the only two other players to end an opening flight over the weekend with at least 20 million in chips.
Other players heading into Day 2 near the top of the leaderboard include Thomas Boivin (18,388,054), Joseph Cheong (17,118,762), William Kassouf (16,075,000), Espen Uhlen Jorstad (13,730,257), and Dominik Nitsche (12,483,080).

The structure becomes deeper on Day 2 with 30-minute blind levels throughout the day as compared to 25-minute blind levels during each of the opening flights.
All of the returning players are each guaranteed a min-cash of $2,105 for nearly double the $1,100 buy-in with all players having their eye on the top prize of $184,507.

It’s now my official Day 1. But here’s my story.

2 mins read

Since October 2019, I have lost close to $20k on online websites and buying call options amidst the AMC/GME hype. Being only 21 and a college student and not wanting to keep falling down the rabbit hole, I’ve tried so many times to stop and have just failed so many times. I gambled consistently during my classes and lost so many good friends as I would stay home and gamble, this disease is sickening. I’m about to graduate in June and wondered where all the time went, and it’s sad to say that most of my time in college was spent in my apartment watching the Lithuanian basketball league at 3 in the morning, or betting absurd amounts of money on roulette spins and losing all my balance after two spins. I guess I’m here to say that if there are any college students out there, who happen to be in my shoes, just go out. Have a good time. Gambling is becoming more and more popular among college students and I would hate to see more people fall into this deadly trap.My “last straw” occurred just this past Friday when I went over to my friends’ house to bet on these overseas and international basketball games (yes, we are both huge degenerates). We each lost about $100 that night on his account. However, trying to win everything back I had just lost, I went and logged back into his account without his permission when he was asleep and fired away every penny remaining in his balance (about $600 worth on the computerized blackjack). Let’s just say, he was not happy, and while I did end up paying him everything I had lost on his account and my own bookie for the original 300 I lost that morning, I just came to this realization.I guess it made me finally understand that I really do have a serious problem, that logging into someone else’s account could have gotten me killed, and that I don’t wanna deal with this stress anymore. Gambling is a complete lie, and there is nothing else that can tell me otherwise now. I have had no urges to gamble so far since Saturday morning, and the longest I have been able to quit since October 2019 was two weeks. So, let’s see if this truly was my final breaking point.

The Strangest Casino Jackpot Wins of All Time

3 mins read

08:1615 FebEveryone has heard of life-changing casino wins where lucky players go on a winning spree and ‘break the bank’, but today we are going to look at some of the more unusual big wins that have rocked casinos over the years…First up, when dreams come true…In 2015, life changed for 53-year-old taxi driver Goksel Selay when he scooped £90,000 playing blackjack -but he already had a suspicion a big win was on its way.“I had had a dream a few days earlier about winning big money and told my wife about it,” the Cyprus-born jackpot winner explained afterwards.Cutting short his cab-driving nightshift because “it was very quiet”,  Goksel decided: “I would try my luck because I had the dream and it came true.”He added: “I don’t usually play Blackjack as I prefer roulette but I wasn’t having much luck there so I decided to play Blackjack instead as I saw the jackpot was rising.”Hitting four aces at the Genting Club Westcliff in Southend, England, did the trick and soon he was £89,950 wealthierOf course, you don’t have to drive the streets of a seaside town in search of a fare or a jackpot, with the likes of Casimba online casino offering huge winning chances from the comfort of your home. That’s how British soldier John Heywood bagged a monster $13million+ jackpot – and it came just 25 minutes after he opened his online account! The sum was a world record when the 26-year-old scooped his huge win in 2015, and it cost him the princely sum of just 25p to play the MegaMoolah slots. His first plan on discovering his new riches was to pay for his SICK father’s medical treatment, and for himself – a yellow Bentley Continental convertible GT!A cautionary tale now if you’re planning on getting someone to kiss the dice or press the buttons for you for good luck, as whatever you win might just go to your lucky charm instead. That’s what happened to jackpot ‘winner’ Jan Flato, who asked his girlfriend to do the honors on his favorite slots game. When the reels hit home and the $100,000 jackpot, state laws meant that it was the girlfriend who received the cash! Hopefully the pair are now happily married and enjoying the win together…We’ll finish off our list of the bizarre and most unusual casino wins with the following incredible tale – though we wouldn’t recommend copying it to everyone!Back in 2004, Ashley Revell decided to cash in his life possessions and stake it all on a single roll of a roulette wheel. BMW car, Rolex watch, golf clubs, in fact pretty much everything except for the clothes on his back went into his Las Vegas kitty. When it stood at $135,300, he was all set for the double-or-nothing bet Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, deciding only at the last minute which colour it was all going to ride on.Betting randomly on red, a few seconds later the ball landed on number 7 – a red number! – and Revell had scooped $270,600, and he was soon heading off for a European trip to celebrate on a new motorcycle. Dreams do come true!Did you like this article?Tweet

Moves to Open Gambling, Lottery in Hawaii Reach Roadblocks

3 mins read

Usually when someone asks if gambling will ever be legalized across the States of America, there has always been two holdouts that would prevent it. Utah, being the home of the Mormon Church, has banned any type of gambling inside the state’s borders, even lotteries. Hawaii used to be the other state in that answer, but there are moves to open the islands for gambling and lottery sales that are currently at a roadblock.

Casino, Lottery Sales in Legislation

According to Dan Nakaso of the Honolulu Star-Adviser, the chances of a bill passing through the Hawaii House of Representatives took several blows last week. There were three bills that had been proposed by State Representative Sean Quinlan, who chairs the House Economic Development Committee. The three bills would have each addressed a different area of gaming in the Aloha State.

The first was House Bill 383, which would have created a state-run poker commission that would have jurisdiction over live poker rooms in the state. The second was House Bill 772, which would have allowed for the building of a casino at the Hawaii Convention Center that would only be accessible by players who had stayed in an Oahu hotel. Finally, there was House Bill 736, which would have given the framework for digital sports betting (mobile).

The Senate also had their own bills floating around their chambers. Senate Bill 816 would have created the ability for the state to facilitate a lottery that would have begun in January 2022. The bill passed out of the Senate Education Committee, but it was amended by the chairwoman of the committee, Senator Michelle Kidani, to take effect in January 2023 instead. An additional casino proposal in the Senate, Senate Bill 1321, is also on the table, but has yet to pass out of committee.

What Would be the Impact of Legalized Gaming on Hawaii? If you are looking at just the residents of Hawaii, gaming might not be significantly impactful. With only 1.42 million residents, they are barely above the size of Delaware (a state which has a multitude of gaming operations) and less than Nevada. With this said, a study showed that there are 500,000 trips from Hawaii to Las Vegas every year, a sizeable amount of traffic that cannot be ignored.

The real draw of gaming in Hawaii would be the tourism industry. Over seven million people visit the Hawaiian Islands on a yearly basis simply for what the islands have to offer now. While there might be a decrease in some areas of tourism if casino gaming were allowed (people wouldn’t be taking the sightseeing trips and other accoutrements), having casino gaming and other options available could raise significant revenues.

There is a downside of the situation, however, and it is something that we have been dealing with for the past year – COVID. Already dependent on tourism for much of their revenues, why would Hawaii commit to another arena that is driven by people gathering in an area and potentially get sick? The moves by the bicameral legislature in Hawaii are significant in that they are examining the issue of gaming heavily. But even those in charge say that there is no possibility of passage of these laws, at least in 2021. The discussion is there, however, so it may be something that nobody has any control over as to when it will happen – the passage of time and the acceptance of gaming in the state.

Day 100 – Woot! Woot!😊

2 mins read

Today is an important day for me. Day 100. I don’t like to post in the mornings, usually, because I haven’t made it through the day yet. Today is different, I KNOW that I won’t gamble today. Period. It’s only fitting that it lands on Valentine’s Day, because this has been a journey of learning how to love myself. It’s been a battle and some days the journey is harder than others, but I’ve made it. I think about the damage that I wrought over years and years, and then I look at the progress that I’ve made in these past three months and it’s amazing. I will preface by saying that my husband and I are extremely lucky, we are both essential workers and our income hasn’t been harmed by the Pandemic. I will say, though, my gambling beat all for emptying out our finances. Now, after three months of better choices our bank account needs a comma. It requires a comma. The debt is still there. But I’m slowly whittling that down. I would love to throw all of my new found liquidity at the debt. But I’m learning about the value of money again. I’m learning about the slow build of money; about saving and earning. Tonight I’m going to cook a kick ass Valentine’s dinner for my husband. We’ll eat and relax and I won’t feel like the entire meal is a massive apology for all of my fuck-ups. Every day can really feel like a challenge in the beginning, but it gets easier. It does. Remember, though, that addiction comes from some place. Gambling is a coping skill, an unhealthy coping skill, but a coping skill. Unless you are willing to find out what you are coping with and develop other, healthy coping skills, the shadow will always be lurking over you. Now I can see the shadow, but know to turn on another light. submitted by /u/punkrain [comments]
